Introduction:   The transformation merit resident award / Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program has been established  to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics .

Research for Transformation Fellowship courses: Science, Mathematics And Research . Mechanical Engineering.  Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.  Nuclear Engineering . Oceanography.   Operations Research.  Physics. Electrical Engineering. Geosciences. Industrial and Systems Engineering. Information Sciences.  Materials Science and Engineering. Mathematics. Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. Biosciences. Chemical Engineering. Chemistry. Civil Engineering.  Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences. Computer and Computational Sciences

Research for Transformation Fellowship Areas :  Arms Control/Disarmament, including Nuclear Test Ban, Ballistic Missile Proliferation/Defense, Conventional Arms Transfers, Weapons Proliferation–Nuclear, Biological and Chemical.  Conflict Prevention/Resolution.  Defense Budget.  Dismantling Chemical and Nuclear Weapons in the former Soviet Union.  Environmental and Energy Security, including the Nexus of Climate Change and Energy Use, Conflict, and Resource Scarcity.  Environmental Impact/Cleanup of Nuclear Weapons Production Complex.  Export Controls.  International Security.  Regional/Ethnic Conflicts, including East Asia, South Asia,  Middle East.   United Nations, including UN Peacekeeping.

Research for Transformation Fellowship Value : Full tuition and education related fees .Stipend paid at a rate of $25,000 – $38,000 depending on degree pursuing . Paid summer internships. Health Insurance allowance up to $1,200 per calendar year. Book allowance of $1,000 per academic year. Mentoring. Employment placement after graduation.

Research for Transformation Fellowship priority: U.S. citizen at time of application, 18 years of age or older as of August 1, able to participate in summer internships at DoD laboratories, willing to accept post-graduate employment with the DoD, a student in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and, pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the disciplines listed
